Weird Modernisms Programme Announced

The programme has been announced for “Weird Modernisms”, a major conference organised jointly by the Modernist Studies Association and the British Association for Modernist Studies, to be held at Loughborough University on 1-4 July 2026.

The conference showcases the vast, multi-faceted, and wonderfully “weird” breadth of modernist studies, and there is much that will be of interest to Society members. It is good to see that, on a very crowded agenda, current Ford scholarship is well represented in several sessions:

  • A paper by Bonnie Pang, comparing the Tudor trilogies of Ford and Hilary Mantel
  • A panel, chaired by Max Saunders, on “Strange Tales from the English Review“, to include papers by Garrett Bruen, Julia Fernelius and Alexander Scott discussing short stories by Ford, Violet Hunt, and Wyndham Lewis
  • A paper by Rob Hawkes considering the “Weird Epistemologies of Money and Trust” in works by Ford, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Nella Larsen
  • A presentation by Max Saunders on “Weird Modernist Futures in the To-day and To-morrow book series”
  • A virtual session by Reiko Kawamoto considering the “Killer POV” in The Good Soldier and Henry James’ The Sacred Fount.

Registration for the conference is still open, including one-day and online options.
