We were sorry to hear that Mary de Rachewiltz, Ezra Pound’s daughter by Olga Rudge, died on 24 July at Brunnenberg in Merano, Italy, at the age of 101.
She was a poet and translator, and curator of the Ezra Pound Archive (Centre for the Study of Ezra Pound and His Contemporaries) in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University. She translated work by a number of poets, including E. E. Cummings, Marianne Moore and Denise Levertov, and her memoir Discretions appeared in 1971.
Her most substantial project was the translation into Italian of her father’s work, primarily the first dual-language edition of The Cantos. With Pound’s biographer A. David Moody and Joanna Moody, she co-edited Ezra Pound to His Parents: Letters 1895-1929 (Oxford University Press, 2010) – a major resource, not least for several volumes of the forthcoming Collected Letters of Ford Madox Ford.
